Perhaps you have just received a letter from the Canada Revenue Agency (hereinafter the “CRA”) which informs you that you have been selected to receive the First-Time Claimant Advisory Service (hereinafter the “FTCAS”). Are you wondering whether this visit is tantamount to a technical or taxation examination of SR&ED work?
In fact, the objective of the FTCAS is not to determine the eligibility of your work and expenses. Its first goal is to inform first-time claimants as to the eligibility to the SR&ED program and documentation requirements. Its second goal, very important, is to increase the predictability of work for the next claims. It is an informative free service, provided in person, which offers first-time claimants in the context of the program an opportunity to meet the SR&ED personnel of the CRA in their workplace.
